Northern Virginia-based Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Practitioner Dr. William Booker Completes Elite ISCRS Certification
Dr. William Booker, founder of Capitol Rehab of Arlington, has successfully completed the rigorous skills test and certification required for full membership into the International Society of Clinical Rehabilitation Specialists (ISCRS).
ISCRS testing, which serves as a quality-control measure of all ISCRS members rehab implementation and administration skills, consists of a combination of oral and case management examinations with key members of ISCRS including the esteemed Craig Liebenson, D.C. Testing determines satisfactory understanding and mastery of basic functional screens and exercises as described by leaders in the functional rehabilitation movement such as Professors Vladimir Janda and Stuart McGill. The functional approaches of Robin McKenzie, PT, David Butler, PT, Gray Cook, PT, Mark Versteegan, Pavel Kolar, PT, Karel Lewit, MD, Tom Mayer, MD, and Gary Grey, PT are also considered.
Approximately 50+ highly-acclaimed rehabilitation professionals attended the ISCRS examinations. Dr. Booker was one of ten attending chiropractors. “It was great to see about 20% of those being tested for ISCRS membership were chiropractors,” says Dr. Booker. “This is a highly elite examination exclusively focusing on restoring function to the body. The ISCRS program is a strong departure from the perceptions that often exist surrounding chiropractors in back rooms with snake oil and rubbing chickens,” Dr. Booker humorously explains. “Given the strong focus on mainstream education, largely research-based practices and promotion of independent (vs. dependent) lifestyles, I wish I had seen more chiropractors in attendance. Overall, those who were present — physical therapists, rehab specialists and other experts in functional movement — were the best of the best in their fields.”
