Dr. William Booker, DC and founder of Capitol Rehab of Arlington in Northern Virginia Launches New Twitter Account to Help Washington DC Metro Area Locals with Health Issues Pertaining to Back Pain, Shoulder Pain and Other Mobility Challenges
Founder of Capitol Rehab of Arlington Dr. William Booker, DC has just recently launched a new Twitter account at @DrWilliamBooker to help Washingtonians learn more about back pain-related challenges and how to address them successfully without surgery. “While I’ve been tweeting for some time over at my practice’s Twitter feed @capitolrehab, I felt I needed to personalize my outreach even more,” shares Dr. Booker, who was voted as one of 75 experts who can help you stay healthy by Washingtonian Magazine (January 2010 edition). “My goal is to begin connecting directly with locals who struggle with back, shoulder, neck or knee pain in our area. I’d like to be considered as a credible, friendly and viable resource who can point these folks in the right direction.”
Dr. Booker is presently only one of eight chiropractic professionals in the Arlington, Northern Virginia area with seven highly specialized certifications in Active Release Treatment® (ART). ART is a patented, elite soft tissue system/movement-based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART.
“I’ve only been tweeting on my new Twitter account for less than a month,” says Dr. Booker, “but I already feel I’ve established a good tempo for posting news and tips pertaining to chiropractic health as well as other topics in line with sports medicine including fitness, health, exercise and nutrition.”
The doctor spends a few hours a week curating relevant news items to share and is working with local social media strategist and DC Twitter columnist for Examiner.com Mayra Ruiz-McPherson to grow his new @DrWilliamBooker community incrementally. “Mayra says we should treat my new Twitter feed more like a marathon rather than a sprint so that’s what I’m doing,” shares Dr. Booker. “We will collaborate closely over the coming months in an effort to build connections of value with individuals based in Arlington and neighboring metro areas receptive to a local tweeting doctor who simply just wants to be of some assistance.”
“If you’re located in the Northern Virginia area and tweet about back pain, chiropractors or other topics where Dr. Booker can offer some insight, don’t be surprised if you might receive a tweet from him directly,” shares Ruiz-McPherson who’s worked with Dr. Booker and his medical practice since late 2009. “Twitter is a fantastic tool for allowing relevant and localized connections to occur; and when one’s outreach is meaningful and genuine, most folks — such as @DonnyFerguson — seem to be receptive and appreciative for the guidance.”

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 At 8:21 am
Kinsio Tape used to treat limitless number of patient ailments and injuries
Capitol Rehab of Arlington physical therapists Barb Fallon Wallace, MSPT, DPT and Lyn Stewart, PT are clinically skilled in the Kinesio Taping methods and taping techniques. Both our residential physical therapists attended and completed Kinesio taping coursework and are actively applying their knowledge with a variety of patients in the clinic. Kinesio Tape can be used to treat a virtually limitless number of ailments and injuries.
Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Shin splints
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Patellar Tendonitis and Patellofemoral Joint Disorder
- Hamstring Strains
- Illiotibial Band Syndrome
- Tennis/Golfers Elbow
- Carpal Tunnel
- Scoliosis
- ACL Injury
What is Kinesio Taping?
Kinesio Taping (KT) is a therapeutic taping method appropriate for nearly any treatment during any stage of injury: acute, sub-acute, chronic, and rehabilitative. The KT method is fundamentally different from conventional athletic taping. Multiple layers are not necessary and each application of tape serves a specific purpose! The ideal characteristic about the Kinesio Tex Tape is it can be applied and worn for 24hours/day 3-5 days and does not restrict movement.
This makes it extremely popular with the athletic population! KT is achieving its greatest acceptance from some of the best know world athletes: pro soccer players, Lance Armstrong and US cycling team, along with many competitors in the 2009 summer Olympic games. Despite its popularity in the athletic arena, non-athletes alike are choosing KT for its ability to treat them without interfering with their daily activities!
Four functions of Kinesio Tape:
- Supports muscles
- Removes congestion
- Corrects joint dysfunctions
- Activates the body’s endogenous analgesic system
These four functions contribute to the success of treatment, training, and rehabilitation. Please call Capitol Rehab of Arlington to schedule an appointment if you are interested in learning about Kinesio Taping at 703.527.5492.
Renowned Arlington Chiropractor Becomes Member of International Society of Clinical Rehabilitation Specialists (ISCRS)
Thursday, July 1st, 2010 At 3:17 pm
Northern Virginia-based Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Practitioner Dr. William Booker Completes Elite ISCRS Certification
Dr. William Booker, founder of Capitol Rehab of Arlington, has successfully completed the rigorous skills test and certification required for full membership into the International Society of Clinical Rehabilitation Specialists (ISCRS).
ISCRS testing, which serves as a quality-control measure of all ISCRS members rehab implementation and administration skills, consists of a combination of oral and case management examinations with key members of ISCRS including the esteemed Craig Liebenson, D.C. Testing determines satisfactory understanding and mastery of basic functional screens and exercises as described by leaders in the functional rehabilitation movement such as Professors Vladimir Janda and Stuart McGill. The functional approaches of Robin McKenzie, PT, David Butler, PT, Gray Cook, PT, Mark Versteegan, Pavel Kolar, PT, Karel Lewit, MD, Tom Mayer, MD, and Gary Grey, PT are also considered.
Approximately 50+ highly-acclaimed rehabilitation professionals attended the ISCRS examinations. Dr. Booker was one of ten attending chiropractors. “It was great to see about 20% of those being tested for ISCRS membership were chiropractors,” says Dr. Booker. “This is a highly elite examination exclusively focusing on restoring function to the body. The ISCRS program is a strong departure from the perceptions that often exist surrounding chiropractors in back rooms with snake oil and rubbing chickens,” Dr. Booker humorously explains. “Given the strong focus on mainstream education, largely research-based practices and promotion of independent (vs. dependent) lifestyles, I wish I had seen more chiropractors in attendance. Overall, those who were present — physical therapists, rehab specialists and other experts in functional movement — were the best of the best in their fields.”
About International Society of Clinical Rehabilitation Specialists (ISCRS)
ISCRS’s mission is to promote “evidence-based” health care information to help guide consumers with musculoskeletal pain disorders in making appropriate decisions about their care. In particular, self-care advice; when to see a doctor; and how to find a highly trained specialist. The ISCRS membership includes physicians (D.C., D.O., Ph.D. & M.D.), PT’s, ATC’s, exercise physiologists and kinesiologists. For more information, please visit www.clinicalrehabspecialists.com.

Capitol Rehab of Arlington Announces Launch of New Web site
Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 At 3:25 am
Capitol Rehab of Arlington, a chiropractic and wellness practice successfully treating spinal injuries such as disc protrusions, sprain/strains, sciatic and other forms of radiculitis — has recently launched its own web site which can be viewed at www.capitolrehabofarlington.com.
The new site not only provides fundamental information for patients but also incorporates some new features including:
- new blogs dedicated to fitness & health, wellness and nutrition topics in line with a chiropractic lifestyle
- an e-mail newsletter for patients and friends of Capitol Rehab of Arlington interested in guidance, tips and advice from Dr. William Booker, DC, Director of Capitol Rehab of Arlington & co-founder of Capitol Rehab Management
- a content-shareable, online repository of articles for patients interested in fitness and sports-related injuries as well as common ailments suitable for massage therapy or chiropractic care
- ability for patients to request appointments online
- social media sharing capabilities with a strong emphasis on Facebook and Twitter
“We are delighted with our new online presence,” says Dr. Booker. “Not just for the sake of having a web site but specifically because we believe we’ve set up a strong foundation that aligns very relevantly to the rise of Health 2.0 — a term used to describe the progressive nature of today’s average patients who heavily rely on a variety of media and resources to research disease, treatment, and general health information. The internet is a key component of today’s Health 2.0 patient’s mix.”
Another unique aspect of this web launch project is that the chiropractic practice specifically chose a digital marketing service provider to create the new Capitol Rehab of Arlington web site as opposed to a traditional web design shop. “We felt it was important to employ the expertise of not just a web designer or web developer but of a service that fully understands all facets of digital and social media marketing, especially in the health care arena.”
“Our team is extremely proud of this web site launch,” says Mayra Ruiz, founder of Ruiz-McPherson Communications, a digital marketing and social media engagement service based out of Charles Town, West Virginia. “Above and beyond providing Dr. Booker’s practice with an informative and content-shareable web site, the fact that a local medical practice has gone to such great lengths to integrate many aspects of digital and social media marketing in a holistic fashion has been an exciting endeavor for us to be a part of,” says Ruiz.
Direct-to-consumer (DTC) online information sources indicate consumers are actively searching general health sites, search engines, product sites, pharmaceutical company sites, social networking sites, and blogs/message boards/chat rooms for quality and relevant information pertaining to their health. “Social media has become a chief venue for such information gathering,” says Ruiz, adding that more than 80 million US adults use social media to create or read content on blogs, message boards, chat rooms, health social networks and communities.
“Various recent e-Health-related reports indicate that the consumer market in this space has grown significantly in the past five years, from 90 million consumers online for health in 2004 to nearly 160 million in 2009,” says Ruiz.
Dr. Booker, an advocate of web 2.0 technologies in support of patient outreach and communications, will utilize his practice’s new web site to improve the quality of health and chiropractic-related communications and share of-value information to his patient base as well as others interested in the benefits of a chiropractic lifestyle.

Arlington-based Chiropractor Ends Years of “Hypocrisy”

Dr. William Booker seeks to extends foundation of true expertise by running the Marine Corps Marathon
[ Arlington, Virginia ] September 16, 2009
Dr. William Booker D.C., founder of Arlington-based Capitol Rehab — a full-service, multidisciplinary clinic that combines diverse rehabilitation techniques with the benefits of a modern fitness center — has recently stepped up his own efforts to improve the position from which he provides advice and counsel to countless athletes, runners and fitness aficionados who seek assistance with injuries related to their participation in competitions or training for marathons. To extend his foundation of true expertise, Dr. Booker has decided to train and run in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon being held on October 25, 2009.
“I have worked with literally thousands of runners and hundreds of marathon runners over my past 12 years of practice,” says Dr. Booker who playfully adds that during the span of over a decade, he would often refer to marathoners as crazy or nuts. “I have recommended marathoners to everything from group therapy to possibly something stronger like drug therapy,” Booker shares. “Recently, however, I began to feel slightly guilty for being so ruthless without actually ever having experienced what a marathon runner goes through.”
Questions Booker would often ask himself about marathoners and their motivation to run such long, grueling distances include:
- Why do they do it?
- What is this “Runners high” they speak of?
- What do they know that I am missing?
- Or are they actually just CRAZY!!!
To end what Booker self-describes as “hypocrisy,” the long time chiropractor realized in order to have a much better foundation of true expertise with which to advice, counsel and possibly even critique marathon runners, he would have to run in a marathon himself. “And so that is what I am doing,” Booker shares. “I’ve signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon and began training with the Galloway Metro DC Marathon Training Program.”
To chronicle his first marathon experience ever, Dr. Booker has begun to journalize his marathon training via his newly launched blog aptly titled Marathons are for Crazy People. “This blog will share not just my training experiences but will look for input from more experienced runners than myself.” Dr. Booker also aspires to share how he incorporates every rehabilitation, chiropractic, and physical therapy trick “known to man” in order to prevent or in some cases, just limit the severity of runner-related injury and trauma.
