The Dr. Oz School Challenge, Part 1
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010 At 2:55 am
I found this on the Dr. Oz site where, in this specific episode, Dr. Oz goes back to school to fight teen obesity — currently a national problem that has reached epidemic proportions. Along with his HealthCorps team, Dr. Oz is committed to getting America’s teens back on the right track.
I’m sharing this here in hopes that you and your family can learn some tips or come across some advice that will help make better food and lifestyle choices. The video highlights a group of students from Brooklyn, New York’s New Utrecht High School who highlight their successes with diet, nutrition and health.
Enjoy!
Hey everybody! Amanda here …

I know it’s been a while since I last updated you all; sorry about that but I’ve had a busy summer with family and friends. And prior to being off for the summer, I was so busy with exams … it was really hard to keep up with everything.
A quick update: I’ve lost four pounds in the past week and I’m still trying to keep at dieting and being mindful of physical activity but it hasn’t been easy. I haven’t gone to the gym in awhile but I’m going to try to get back into it.
Lately, I’ve decided to start controlling my portions better by using smaller dishware. I’ve also lately started drinking some breakfast essentials shakes that help keep me feeling pretty full. I also plan on getting some measuring cups to start measuring all my meal servings.
I want to be honest and say I’ve been going up and down with my weight loss. It’s been really tough because of all the social gatherings with my friends and the school cafeteria doesn’t usually serve healthy food choices (and the salad bar at school is just crummy, at best).
At home, it’s also challenging because my siblings are not on diets so it’s just really a struggle on a day to day basis. Some days are definitely much better than others.
I will update again soon and hope to share more successful news. Until then, thanking everyone again for their support and well wishes!!
